vital it is to provide the best
spokesperson to present the truth.
This must be done on a daily basis.
So: write Knesset members. Write our
network television stations and news
stations. Write our senators and con-
gressmen. Write to this country's lead-
ers. Write the editors of our newspa-
pers and magazines. Let them know
you're concerned and want fair, accu-
rate reporting.
Our day at Bar-Ilan University in
Ramat Gan was enlightening and
encouraging. We heard from and
asked questions of Professor Shmuel
Sandler, chairman of the department
of political science. We also attended a
panel discussion with Professors Ger-
ald Steinberg and Stuart Cohen of the
Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Stud-
ies. Their insights on the conflicts are
vital. These individuals possess a
knowledgeable background in Arab-
Israeli relations, the peace process and
military issues. This think tank of Bar-
Ilan staff works with government lead-
ers. Moshe Tsfafrir, past adviser to the
prime minister on Arab affairs, shared
tremendous insight into the Arab
mentality and the Israelis' challenge.
At the conclusion of our trip, we
heard from Professor Moshe Kaveh,
president of Bar-Ilan. His words were
brief, but the scope of his remarks -
were vast:

"Love is important, but dangerous.
"Love your God.
"Love learning and teach your children.
."Love rationality; love without rationali-
ty is dangerous.
"Love other people; if you kill someone,
you kill a little of God.
"If you kill, you must weigh necessity
first.
"Love Eretz Yisroel."
Rabbi Mitchell Wohlberg, a member
of our trip, summed it up in a message
for Jews in the diaspora: It is vital to
support Israel's economy and equally, or
perhaps more importantly, Israel's spirit,
its heart. Eighty percent of Jewish Amer-
icans have not visited Israel. If you
haven't visited Israel, go. If you've gone
before, go again. As goes the future of
Israeli Jews, goes the future of American
Jews. Don't cancel or postpone that trip
— go now, in Israel's time of need.
