ochelle Upfal sat at a key-
board and typed a message
of support to Israelis in
the central Galilee.
"It's important to show our solidari-
ty with our Israel family and to show
them they're not alone," said Upfal of
West Bloomfield, who sat with her
daughter Jessie, 10. "It's important to
show my daughter how important it is
to be here."
They joined about 200 others at
Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit in Farmington Hills for
Sunday's Israel Action Day. It was an
event that allowed Jews in metro
Detroit to demonstrate their sup-
port for the Jewish homeland's
latest plight by sending e-mail
messages to central Galileans,

writing pro-Israel letters to members
of the U.S. Congress, signing solidari-
ty banners to be carried on next
month's Michigan Unity Mission to
Israel and writing prayers to be insert-
ed into Jerusalem's Western Wall on
that mission.
Israel Action Day was sponsored by
the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit, Jewish Community Council
of Metropolitan Detroit, American
Jewish Committee and Anti-
Defamation League.
At the event, May Moskowitz of
Southfield wrote to U.S. Rep. Joe
Knollenberg, R-Bloomfield Township.
She urged him to support $450 mil-
lion in emergency aid to cover what
