A ceremony to affix mezuzot to the tem-
porary home of the Sarah and Irving
Pitt Child Development Center will
take place 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14,
in the modular classrooms on the west
end of the Jewish Community Center in
West Bloomfield. Mezuzot will be
affixed to the doorposts of each entrance
and classroom.
JCC Jewish Education Director
Rabbi Hal Greenwald will officiate.
Additional participants include members
of the Pitt family; benefactors of the
new facility; Jewish Federation CEO
Robert Aronson; Federation's Alliance
for Jewish Education Director Harlene
Appelman; Federation COO Mark
Davidoff; and Pitt CDC children, staff
and families.
The move into the child develop-
ment center's temporary facilities will
take place Dec. 15 and 17. Volunteers to
help with moving are requested.
Immediately following, construction will
begin on the new Pitt Child
Development Center.
When completed in fall 2001, the
CDC will have enough space and be
equipped to accommodate 250 children
— up from the current enrollment of
150.
The renovated Pitt Child
Development Center will have state-of-
the-art classrooms, a toddler gym, sci-
ence, cooking and computer labs;
kitchen facilities and educational and
play spaces.

The Pitt CDC offers children tradi-
tional child-care activities, including
playtime, age-appropriate physical edu-
cation, values education, story times,
arts and crafts, music and computer
activities; a Judaic component and
kosher lunches and snacks.
Afternoon naptime is part of the chil-
dren's schedule.
The Pitt family donation was made
as part of Federation's Millennium
Campaign for Detroit's Jewish Future.

To volunteer with the move to tem-
porary facilities or for information
about the mezuzot-affixing ceremo-
ny, call Freddie Schneider at the
Pitt Child Development Center,
(248) 661-7605.
