The event, including a speaker and briefings on developments in Israel, will take place from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit. Sponsors are the American Jewish Committee, Anti-Defamation League, Jewish Community Council and Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. Twenty-five computers will be set up at the school for individuals to send messages to friends, relatives and resi- dents of the central Galilee, the Detroit Jewish community's sister region through Partnership 2000. Attendees also will be able to sign a banner of soli- darity and write prayers for insertion in the Western Wall, carried to Israel by participants in the Michigan Unity Mission. The briefing on the Michigan Unity Mission, which will take place Jan. 14- 19, will be provided by one of Israel's foremost tour planners, Tzvika Gerstel. Gerstel will outline the itinerary of the trip, which is sponsored by Federation and the Jewish News in cooperation with congregations and organizations throughout the state. Preceding Israel Action Day is Solidarity Shabbat on Dec. 1-2, when local congregational leaders will speak and lead prayers for peace. Participants in the five-day trip will spend three days in Jerusalem and one day in the central Galilee, where resi- dents of Michigan's Partnership 2000 region will host them. The travelers will get Israel's perspective on relevant issues from government and military officials, but also from people with dif- ferent -viewpoints on the peace process. Mission goers will have "family time," an opportunity to visit w ith family members who live in Israel — part of the people-to-people connec- tion that will be emphasized on the trip.
