Notes
Former Detroiter Dr. S. Larry
Schlesinger has been honored as
physician of the year for 2000 by the
Hawaii Medical Association. He has
been performing plastic surgery in
Hawaii for 20 years. This is the first
time the 144-year-old association has
honored a doctor in that specialty.
Schlesinger, a recovering alcoholic
who was once addicted to tranquiliz-
ers, has intervened with 100 profes-
sionals — 25 of them doctors — to
force them to accept addiction treat-
ment. He is a part of the little-known
Committee for Physician Health of
the Hawaii Medical Association.
