Puppet Show
For Chanukah

Congregation Beth Shalom religious
school students will have a special treat
this Chanukah when Dorit Bendick
brings her Chanukah puppet show from
Jerusalem. Beth Shalom is one of two
sites that will host the show in this area.
Bendick will present "Dana Searches
for Her Roots" 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17,
at the synagogue. Following the show,
from 10 a.m. to noon, the children will
have special Chanukah activities in their
classrooms.
Children age 2 1 /2 to 9 and their fami-
lies are invited to attend the show.
Children not enrolled in the Beth
Shalom religious school must be accom-
panied by an adult.

Lecture's Focus:
Shoah Writings

"Ingeborg Hecht: Holocaust
Writings of Courage and
Conviction" will be the subject of a
lecture following Dec. 9 services
held by Congregation T'chiyah in
Royal Oak.
T'chiyah member Roslyn Abt
Schindler of Huntington Woods,
associate professor of interdiscipli-
nary studies program in the College
of Lifelong Learning at Wayne
State University in Detroit and a
member of the board of directors of
WSU's Cohn-Haddow Center for
Judaic Studies, will be the speaker.
Hecht authored two memoirs
of her experiences in Europe
before, during and after the
Holocaust. Schindler has a col-
lection of personal correspon-
dence and documented conver-
sations with Hecht that serve as
the basis of her talk.
The Reconstructionist services
will begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 9 at the
Royal Oak Woman's Club, 404 S.
Pleasant at Fourth, Royal Oak.
T'chiyah nembers Gaye Tischler
and Frank Castronova of Ferndale
will lead the services.
The next Shabbat lecture will
feature Anca Vlaspolos, author
of No Return Address: Memoir of
a Displaced Person, on Saturday,
Jan. 13.
