our obligation to the Jewish community in Israel, that it never feel isolat- ed. We must back up our thoughts with actions — pub- lic lobbying and visits to the Rabbi Goldberg Holy Land." The Sunday afternoon of information and hands-on activities will be presented by the Anti- Defamation League, American Jewish Committee, Jewish Community Council and Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. Guest speakers, a workshop and other activities are planned, along with a session on the Michigan Unity Mission led by Israel tour planner Tzvika Gerstel. Growing A broad-based representation of congre- gations, organizations and communal agencies has expressed its full support of the Michigan Unity Mission to Israel. Penny Blumenstein, president of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, who is leading the mission with associate chairs Dr. Richard Krugel and Marta Rosenthal, said that nearly 50 organizations have signed on. Several outstare communities, includ- ing Ann Arbor, Flint and Grand Rapids, as well as Toledo and Windsor, also are sending representatives on the mission. As of Nov. 24, more than 160 individu- als had requested applications. The cost of $999 per person (double occupancy) includes round-trip airfare direct from Detroit via El Al, as well as hotel, all meals and transportation in Israel. Participants in the five-day trip will spend three days in Jerusalem and one day in the central Galilee, Michigan's Partnership 2000 region. They will get Israel's perspective of the issues from government and military officials. There will be no solicitation of funds. Blumenstein said participants will have "family time," an opportunity to visit with family members who live there — part of the people-to-people connec- tion that will be emphasized on the trip. She added, "We'll make time to shop. Our dollars are needed to help Israel's tourism industry" Space is limited; those who want information or wish to reserve a place should contact Susan Kamin, (248) 203-1524, or e-mail kamin@jfmd.org Extensions can be arranged.
