in a clean environment ... Khalifs
Pyramids Cafe always had health
department marks that regularly hov-
ered around the 90 percent mark.
When Southfield Commons owner
Paul Johnson heard that Khalil wanted
to return to the location of the former
Pyramids, Johnson was elated ... show-
ing the reputation Khalil had built.
Though the name is different, it's for
certain that Khalil being back in the
restaurant game with his Al Shallal, has
brought a Mideastern culinary happi-
ness to his previous customers as well
as the new ones he's added.
WHEN SHE BEGAN her service
to B'nai B'rith as a volunteer, Emily
Rogow never could have dreamed that
30 years later she would retire as exec-
utive director of the local BB office.
She held this post the past five years
... and was a stalwart of much
acclaimed respect.
A retirement party in her honor ...
at Big Daddy's Parthenon in West
Bloomfield ... was for about 200 fami-
ly members, friends and former BB
associates ... amid the lavish remodel-
ing work being done in the banquet
room.
There were many thrills as family
and friends came to the microphone
to shower words of praise onto the
very gracious, humble and fun-loving
Emily.
Among the hits of the evening ...
and there were many ... was something
I never knew in the years of knowing
Sonny Rogow ... Her husband is a
natural standup, straight-faced comic
... From the moment he pulled his
trousers up higher until giving Emily a
beautiful bracelet, Sonny's words
about his 44 years of marriage with
Emily brought a lot of laughter.
Ernie Solomon, Emily's brother, and
staunch Democrat, correctly predicted
much of the outcome in last week's
elections ... and says that our next gov-
ernor will be State Attorney General
Jennifer Granholm ... Sol Nusbaum
still chewed on his lamb chops long
after everyone else had finished ...
David Syme wonderful at the piano ...
