sir Charles Busch, the characters are based on his relatives — in particular, his Aunt Belle, now 88, and Aunt Lillian, who passed away a year ago. "It's wild to hear the audience roar- ing with laughter at things Aunt Belle said that left us shocked and appalled," Busch told The New York Times recently. "When my sister told her she was planning to take a boat trip down the Rhine, Aunt Belle said, `I hope you can sleep on pillows filled with Jewish hair.'" Playing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre, 243 West 47th Street. $30-$70. (212) 239-6200. Tallulah Hallelujah, written by and starring Tovah Feldshuh, tells a mov- ing story about the seductive, whiskey- voiced actress Tallulah Bankhead. The play, set in a Times Square theater in 1956, centers around Bankhead, who is asked to host a benefit for USO sol- diers and introduce the headline enter- tainer, Ella Fitzgerald. But Ella is stuck in traffic and Bankhead has to take over. Improvising, she talks about her life, her family and her relationship with Tennessee Williams, and she belts out a string of musical numbers, including God Bless America, The Very Thought of You, A- Tisket A- Tasket and Bye Bye Blackbird. This is Feldshuh's first venture as a playwright, although she has a long list of theater credits to her name, including roles in Yentl and Lend Me a Tenor. Her dozens of television roles include her portrayal of the Czech freedom fighter Helena Slomova in Holocaust, for which she received an Emmy nomination. Playing at the Douglas Fairbanks Theatre, 432 West 42nd Street. $45. (212) 239-6200. The Dinner Party, starring Henry Winkler, John Ritter and Len Cariou, is Neil Simon's 31st play. Set in the private dining room of an upscale Parisian restaurant, the story begins as six guests receive a mysterious invita- tion to a dinner party. First to arrive are the three men, who are puzzled as to why they have been invited. Then, the other guests arrive — their three ex-wives (Penny Fuller, Jan Maxwell and Veanne Cox). With humorous banter, the couples' love and divorces are explored. There is no intermission. Neil Simon's career began in 1961 with Come Blow Your Horn and he went on to write a bevy of critically acclaimed plays, including Barefoot In BROADWAY on page 92 Enjoy Our Specialties.., , • Baby Lamb Shish Kabob d • Lamb Chops Shish Kafta Shish w .o Deboned Chicken ptato Chop • Chicken Cream Chop • White Fish 11 S • A _ (American & Chaldean-Style) The Sites Of I!!
