The Detroit Chapter of the American
Technion Society recently held a panel
discussion at the West Bloomfield Public
Library, featuring panel moderator Brent
Triest and Technion faculty members
Dr. Joseph Itskovitz and Dr. Erez Braun.
Braun, a Technion physicist, focused
on his work that intersects microelec-
tronics and biology. Itskovitz discussed
his research into embryonic stem cells

that can be grown into replacement tis-
sues, possibly to create hearts, livers,
bone marrow and skin.
The panel also included Randal
Charlton, CEO of Ann Arbor-based
BioSimpleX, a venture-capital company.
Charlton told the audience about the
commercialization process for these
kinds of high-tech discoveries and med-
ical breakthroughs.
