Attention Investors:

Here's Your Solution To
Tax-Free Monthly Income

that a former slave laborer passed away
after Feb. 15, 1999, certain legal heirs
will be entitled to apply for payment.

I never filed for restitution before and
do not receive a penny of compensa-
tion as a Holocaust survivor. Can I
file for the Slave Labor Fund?
Yes. If you meet the eligibility standards
you should definitely file an application.

I was hidden during the war. Can I file
an application for the Slave Labor Fund?
No. Unfortunately, this settlement is
very clear in identifying eligibility only
for those who were interred in camps
or ghettos.

I kept moving east and spent most of
the war in Russian territory. Can I
file for the Slave Labor Fund?
No. You do not meet the eligibility
standards for slave labor.

Who will review and approve my claim?
All applications for Jewish claimants
in the U.S. will be reviewed by the
Conference on Material Claims Against
Germany (the Claims Conference).

How much money will be paid to
each slave laborer?
The total sum allocated for this
fund will be distributed evenly among
all of the applicants. There is, however,
a cap of DM* 15,000 per person.

After filing my application, when
will I receive the money?
Payments to those deemed eligible
will be made in two stages. The timing
of the first payment is not known yet.
The German government and private
industry have stated that they will not
release any funds to slave laborers until
all of the pending class action lawsuits
in U.S. federal courts are dismissed.
This process is in motion.
First, and as soon as possible, each
person will receive DM* 7,500
(approximately $3,700). The second
payment will be paid only after all
applications are reviewed and the total
number of eligible survivors is deter-
mined.

If I have further questions about the
Slave and Forced Labor Settlement,
where can I call?
Jewish Family Service is the desig-
nated Detroit representative for this
process; JFS staff and volunteers have
been trained specifically to assist with
your needs. If you need additional
information or assistance with applica-
tions, call Marianne Wildstrom or
Rachel Yoskowitz at JFS, (248) 559-
1500.

While the Jewish Family Service has
nothing to do with awarding the
money or deciding who is eligible,
volunteers and staff are prepared to

assist persons who are uncertain of
their eligibility or who wish assistance
in filling out the forms. The assis-
tance is provided for Holocaust sur-
vivors free of charge.
For these applicants, the Jewish
Family Service can also provide a sen-
sitive, caring person to deal with their
very difficult memories. For some,
this may be the first time they will
come forward to apply for compensa-
tion. Others, who are already receiv-
ing pensions from the German gov-
ernment, are "on the list" for this
allocation.
It is important to know that it is
not necessary to hire an attorney or
other agent to apply for compensa-
tion. The applications seek biographi-
cal information and do not require
legal assistance.

will not, and can not, be appeased by
financial settlements in any amount.
The latest, and according to the
German government, the last offer of
financial "payment" for slave laborers
and forced laborers is insulting.
No survivor can be compensated
for his or her experience. Those sur-
vivors who do not wish to apply must
be respected for their feelings.
However, no matter what the amount
or how unjust the award, each sur-
vivor should know that these funds
should be accepted and recognized
for what they represent. The fund is
an admission of what was done to
them and against their people. Those
men, women and children who were
forced to work in unbearable condi-
tions and against their will are enti-
tled to these funds and they should
take them.
