The Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation presented a $250,000
check on Monday, Nov. 6, to the
Detroit Medical Center for the
Lawrence and Idell Weisberg Cancer
Center in Farmington Hills.
The foundation presentation came
just 2 1 /, years after the pledge was
made to fund the Hank Greenberg
Lobby in the Weisberg facility. It will
be located next to the Rose Imaging
Center on Northwestern Highway,
near Middlebelt. The foundation's
annual Hank Greenberg Memorial
Golf Tournament raised $150,000
each of the last two summers.
Programs aided by the foundation
include Kids Kicking Cancer, a karate
program for child cancer survivors;
Jewish Association for Residential
Care; the Hall of Fame Games for per-
sons with disabilities; and the JCC
Maccabi Games for teens.
Foundation president Richard Roth
presented the $250,000 check to
DMC president and CEO Dr. Arthur
Porter at the Michigan Jewish Sports
Hall of Fame induction dinner at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek.

Russians Are Coming
To Book Fair

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit's annual Local
Author Book Fair this year includes
books by three Russians writing in
their native language. These authors,
while not part of the fair, will have a
separate reading in Russian at 4 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 12, at the JCC in Oak
Park.
Rivka Latinsky, the JCC's Russian
acculturation director, says this talent-
ed group includes poet Vladimir
Kapitulsky and Mark Mordukhovich, a
member of the Union of Poets and
Writers of the former Soviet Union.
Yevgeniaya Rakhkovskaya also will read
from In the Small Cold Room Our Love
is Alive, his notes written during the
Leningrad blockade during World War

II.
