Shir Tikvah
Promotes Sharing

Congregation Shir Tikvah helps care for
the Jewish community at Chanukah
time by sharing with those less fortu-
nate.
Volunteer Sara Behrman works
with the Jewish Family Service, which
annually provides Shir Tikvah with
over 100 names of people who might
otherwise not receive anything for
Chanukah. Behrman created a system
that displays a large menorah with
"candles" listing the age, gender and
gift preferences, if any, of the recipi-
ents, whose names are not revealed. At
services and Sunday school, congre-
gants are invited to select the number
of "candles" they choose to light (pur-
chase gifts).
The menorah will be taken to
Shabbat services on Friday, Nov. 10, and
to the Family Education program on
Sunday, Nov. 12. Gifts should be
wrapped and delivered to the temple for
services on Friday, Dec. 8, or to the
Sunday school on Dec. 10.
