Yeshivat Akiva will sponsor a communi-
ty enrichment program, "Parshat
Hashavuah In-Depth," from 8:30-9:30
p.m. Wednesdays at the school in
Southfield.
Also on Wednesdays are classes in
Hebrew reading and conversation for
beginners, from 7:30-8:30 p.m.

Preserving Our Histog
Synagogue volunteers and personnel are
invited to learn proper storage and
preservation of historical photographs,
documents and other items at a work-
shop 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at
the Max M. Fisher Federation Building
in Bloomfield Twp.
Heidi Christein, director of
Federation's Leonard N. Simons Jewish
Community Archives, will discuss meth-
ods for ensuring preservation of histori-
cal collections.
The archives was established in 1991
to document the history of the Jewish
community. Sally Krugel is chair of the
Federation/Synagogue Committee; Ken
Marblestone is associate chair. Susan
Citrin chairs the archives.
The program is free. An optional din-
ner at 6 p.m. is $8. For information or

Seventeen students in kindergarten
through third grade were consecrated at
Congregation Beth Shalom in Oak
Park.
The students are Benjamin Cher,
Rachel Efros, Talia Griffin, Sean
Gorosh, Liam Gow, Solomon Havis,
Gabriel Hessenthaler, Eli Lichterman,
Lilly Morrison, Aaron Pickover, Jordan
Rabens, Yael Reinhold, Phillip Ring,
Glen Sherman, Joshua Sider, Madeline
Warshay and Rachel Zemmol.
During the ceremony, Torah scrolls
were passed from student to student,
symbolizing passing the Torah from gen-
eration to generation. The children recit-
ed prayers and sang in honor of the
occasion. Rabbi David A. Nelson
blessed the children; and Cantor Samuel
Greenbaum led the parents, children
and congregation in special songs.
