eeting authors and getting
to know them," says Irene
Winkler, co-chair of the
local author fair at this
year's 49th annual Jewish Book Fair, "is
a most pleasurable experience. They're
funny and enjoy talking to people."
This year, Winkler and co-chair
Marilyn Weiss have assembled a group
of 14 local authors from metro Detroit.
Visitors to the Book Fair can meet
these authors and purchase their books
11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, in
the Janice Charach Epstein Gallery of
the Jewish Community Center in West
Bloomfield.
The local author fair will highlight
the following books, ranging from a
cookbook to Jewish time travel to
career and retirement planning, and
their authors:
• Lenore's Natural Cuisine by
Farmington Hills' Lenore Baum
(Culinary Publications, $17.95). This
vegetarian cookbook has been praised
by health experts, such as Dr. Andrew
Weil and Neal D. Barnard, MD,
Physicians Committee for Responsible
Medicine.
• My Mommy's Cancer by West
Bloomfield's Cindy Klein Cohen and
John T. Heiney (Promise Publications,
$7.95). Their third book together, the
authors have worked with hospital pro-
fessionals to create and develop many
programs for children and families.

• Echoes of Detroit: A 300-Year
History by Oak Park's Irwin Cohen
(City Visions, $19.95). The author,
also known as "Mr. Baseball," was edi-
tor and publisher of The Baseball
Bulletin. He is available for slide pre-
sentation lectures at (248) 967-3383.
• Finding a Career that Works for You
by West Bloomfield's Wilma Fellman
(Independent Publishers Group,
$16.95). "[This book] provides readers
[with] a concise, accessible guide to
help them navigate their way through a
highly complex process," writes
Rhonda Brown, local president of
Michigan Career Development
Association.
• Defining the Fates by Henry

Selected local-author profiles
appear on pages 50-55.

Gleisner (Alpine I, P.O. Box 542,

remarkable story of a Jew who survived
in Nazi Europe," writes Rabbi Sherwin
T. Wine of the Birmingham Temple.

• But He Was Good To His Mother:
The Lives and Crimes of Jewish
Gangsters by West Bloomfield's Robert

Displacement by Grosse Pointe's Anca
