New In Town

cha

n addition to moving into a new "home" in the Max
M. Fisher Federation Building in Bloomfield
Township, the Jewish National Fund's Michigan
Region has a new boss.
He's Ronald Horvat, now regional director of the Detroit
area office and northern Ohio. In effect, he fills the position
once held by Ed Rosenthal, who resigned two years ago.
Since then, Richard
Krosnick of Chicago,
director of the JNF
zone that covers
Detroit, has headed
the local office.
Horvat said his first
priority is to hire a
full-time fund-raiser
to add to the three-
person office. JNF is
the American fund-
raising arm of Karen
Kayemet L'Israel, the
official land agency in
Israel, which has taken
on the Israeli water
shortage as one of its
highest priorities.
Other current pro-
jects include promot-
ing ecology, recre-
ation, tourism, agri-
cultural research and
park development, as
Ronald Horvat
well as reforestation.
Horvat, 33 and sin-
ale is a Cleveland native who still lives there and commutes
to the new job that he started two months ago. He has a
bachelor's degree in English literature from Ohio State
University and a master's degree in non-profit management
from Case Western University. He spent the past five years
as development director for the Cleveland College of Jewish
Studies.
"But I was very active in JNF work during that time and
I loved it," Horvat said. "I took a JNF trip to Israel and
became enthralled with the organization, so I'm very happy
to be able to take on this position now." ❑
