Duty
Duly is Bob Greene's riveting memoir of his
fathers final days and his own quest to under-
stand the war that defined his fathers life.
Greene goes back to Columbus, Ohio to see
his dying father, a highly decorated
World War II infantry officer. In an effort to understand his father and
the men of his generation, Greene is able to persuade his home-
town's most renowned veteran, Paul Tibbets, to speak about the most
intense experiences of his life. Tibbets, 83, was the pilot of the plane
that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima and, thus, brought the war to
an end. The book is a moving tribute to both men, and to all the men
who risked their lives for future generations of Americans, Bob Greene
is an award-winning syndicated columnist for the Chicago Tribune.
