DETROIT CONSERVATIVE

CONSERVATIVE MOVEMENT SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE STUDY OPPORTUNITIES
This is a partial listing of the numerous study sessions for October thru December 2000

SPONSORSHIP

He was instrumental in establishing Ashkelon's second
Masorti community, Kehillat Anahnu Kan ("We are Here")
which serves Russian speaking immigrants who live far
from his own congregation. Rabbi Futterman was the
primary founder of Ashkelon's TALI educational program
(which adds Jewish content to the curricula of non-
Orthodox Israeli schools), and he continues to be involved
by teaching tefillot (prayer) to over 500 TALI students
as well as training TALI teachers.

Rabbi Futterman received his ordination from the Jewish
Theological Seminary in 1982. He also holds B.A. and
M.A. degrees from the Seminary. He earned a B. A. degree
at Columbia College and M. A. and Ed.M. degrees in
Counseling Psychology from Teachers College at
Columbia University.

He is currently a candidate for the degree of D. H. L. in
Jewish Education at the JTS Israel affiliate, the Schechter
Institute of Jewish Studies. He was also a member of the
faculty during the last two years having taught the
practicum and field work course for the Israeli rabbinical
students. He previously served as Dean of Students at
Achva College near Kiryat Malakhi.

Rabbi Futterman is a past president of the Rabbinical
Assembly of Israel and recently served as Israeli co-chair
for the 1998 international convention of the Rabbinical
Assembly held in Jerusalem.

He served as consultant and editor for the English teaching
materials prepared for the jO g dan Sheland kit of
photographs depicting Jewish festivals and holidays in
Israel published by PHOTODIDACTI under the
supervision of the Ministry of Education.

Rabbi Matt Futterman has been serving the first Masorti
(Conservative) Congregation of Ashkelon, Kehillat
Netzach Israel, since August of 1986 when he came on
aliyah with his wife, Chana and their two American born
children, Alon and Yael. The Futtemian's third child, Itamar,
is a sabra like his mother.
