Sander Levin
Born in Detroit, the
69-year--old Levin and
his wife Victoria Schlafer have four
children and seven grandchildren,
The Southfield resident holds a bach-
elor's degree from the University of
Chicago, a master's degree in interna-
tional relations from Columbia
University and a law degree from
Harvard University. He practiced law
in Detroit after being admitted to the
Michigan Bar in 1958.
Levin is a fellow at the Kennedy
School of Government, Institute of
Politics at Harvard and is a former
assistant administrator for the Agency
for International Development.
He has served in the Michigan
State Senate and was Senate
Minority Leader and the Michigan
Democratic Party chairman. Levin
was the Democratic nominee for
governor in 1970 and 1974. He cur-
rendy serves on the Ways and Means
Committee of the House of
Representatives, is the ranking mem-
ber of the Trade Subcommittee and
serves on the Social Security
Subcommittee.
