Bar/Bat Mitzvah

with his wife Amy
and their daughter
Schira in Jerusalem,
and the grand-
daughter of the late
Adam J. Urquhart.
Her program and
celebration were
held at Fusion in Farmington Hills.
Participating in the program
were shule students singing as a
chorus to honor Lizzie, led by
music teacher Esther Freeman and
accompanied by pianist Katrine
Feygin. Arlene Frank, Michigan
District chair, officiated. Karen
Siersma Rosenstein, field director,
brought greetings from Workmen's
Circle locally and nationally.
Lizzie's bat mitzvah presentation
was titled "Jewish Values in
Children's Literature." For her
Yiddish component, she recited an
excerpt of her choosing from The
Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein,
translated into Yiddish by Alva
Dworkin.
Lizzie is an eighth-grade student
at Norup Middle School in Oak
Park. She swims competitively and
plays the violin. She also enjoys
crafts and babysitting.
Her mitzvah projects included
landscaping at a Jewish Association
for Residential Care home on
Mitzvah Day, volunteering for Yad
Ezra and singing with classmates for
residents of the Prentis and Teitel
apartments in Oak Park and for
other shule students at their cele-
brations.

Heather Marissa Hoberman will be
called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah
on Saturday, Oct.
28, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. She is
the daughter of
Cheryl and Steve
Hoberman and sis-
ter of Danielle and
Sarah. Excited
grandparents are
Eileen and Paul
Hoberman. She is
also the granddaughter of the late
Sylvia and Harold Tink.
Heather is an eighth-grade stu-
dent at Walled Lake Middle School.
She enjoys swimming, soccer,
camping, music and computers.

Heather's most meaningful mitz-
vah projects included volunteering
at the West Bloomfield Community
Education Day Camp and making a
donation to the Jewish Association
for Residential Care.

Audra Halley Lachman will be
called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah
on Saturday, Oct. 28, at
Congregation
Shaarey Zedek.
Joining Audra on
the bimah will be
her proud parents,
Janice and Michael,
her brother Scott,
her ecstatic grand-
parents Blanche
Needle and Nate
Lachman and her aunts, uncles and
cousins. Audra is also the grand-
daughter of the late Philip Needle
and the late Shirley Lachman.
Audra is an honor student at
O.E. Dunckel Middle School in
Farmington Hills, where she plays
percussion instruments in the con-
cert band and sings in the concert
choir. She enjoys competitive ten-
nis, basketball, performing at the
Marquis Theatre in Northville and
spending summers at Camp
Tamarack.
Audra has spent numerous hours
on her mitzvah projects. She volun-
teered as a teacher's assistant at
Wood Creek Elementary School
with Karen Edelson, who was her
fifth-grade teacher. At
Congregation Shaarey Zedek's
Shine a Light Into Darkness pro-
gram, she helped prepare and serve
meals for the homeless so they
could have a holiday celebration.
She raised funds for the American
Cancer Society and American
Diabetes Association. She also col-
lected donations and walked six
miles for the Juvenile Diabetes
Foundation.

Joshua Akira Layne will become a
bar mitzvah at Temple Israel on
Saturday, Oct. 28. He is the son of
Michael and Judy Layne and
Rumiko Laughlin. Happy grandpar-
ents are Elaine and Max Fertel,
Norma and Phillip
Layne and Chieko
and Mitsuru Sato.
