collection of ideas and facts.
There are easy, holiday-appro-
priate recipes (Apple Honey Cups
for Rosh Hashanah), good sum-
maries of Torah portions, great
information about Israel (did you
know the almond trees blossom in
Israel in January and February?)
and, of course, all the dates of
Jewish holidays and important
secular occasions.
Bottom line: Make a date to
buy this great calendar.

This is the obvious gift for your
favorite feminist, or for a bat-mitz-
vah girl, or for a mother. But will
she enjoy it? Maybe.
The women profiled are, for the
most part, familiar figures: Miriam,
Zipporah, Ruth, Abigail, Judith and
Esther. If you already know their
stories, this book won't offer any
new insights. If you don't know
them, however, you may find this
interesting. The author has written
these tales as stories for children,
so they make easy-enough read-
ing. And the women's lives are fas-
cinating, so you can't be bored.
The illustrations here are some-
times good, sometimes not so
good.
Bottom line: If you already know
the stories, you don't need it. Oth-
erwise, this is an okay book.
