Yoskowitz for a
discussion on
"The Ethics of
Gene Therapies." Dr. Elizabeth Petty
Dr. Petty is an
associate profes-
sor of medical genetics at the
_University of Michigan. She is the
medical director of the genetics
counseling training program and also
cares for patients at the U-M
Genetics Adult Outpatient Clinic
and Inpatient Consultation Services.
The presentation is co-sponsored
by the Maimonides Society of the
Jewish Federation of Metropolitan
Detroit. The community is welcome.

Rabbi Stauber
received his smichah from Ner Yisroel
Yeshiva in Baltimore, Md., and his
master's degree from Loyola College.
He is a full-time therapist in New
York.
At 5:30 p.m., prior to the lecture,
there will be a buffet dinner at the
Torah Center. Reservations are
required.

Rabbi Futterman
Leads Weekend

Adat Shalom Synagogue will
welcome Rabbi Matthew
Futterman, this year's Detroit-
area
Conservative
movement
scholar-in-
residence, for
a weekend of
programs
beginning
with a
Shabbat din-
ner presenta-
tion Friday,
Rabbi Futterman
Nov. 3.
Rabbi
Futterman will discuss "The
Covenant in Bereshit" and the
implications of our behavior on
humanity and the world. The
following morning, Rabbi
Futterman will deliver a sermon
titled "Futterman's Hamburger
Theory-Developing
Inaentification with the Masorti
Movement." At the Sisterhood
Salutes the Seminary luncheon,
participants will hear "The
Mezuzah: A Case Study in
Jewish Magic." Rabbi Futterman
will conclude his visit at a board
of trustees workshop Sunday
morning talking on "Lech
Lecha: Charting a New Path to
Torah."
Rabbi Futterman was instru-
mental in establishing a Masorti
community in Israel serving
Russian immigrants. Ordained
by the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America, he holds
degrees in counseling psycholo-
gy. In addition, he has served on
the faculty of the Schechter
Institute of Jewish Studies and
has been president of the
Rabbinical Assembly of Israel.
There is a $16 charge for adults
and a $10 fee for children for
the Shabbat dinner. Reservations
are required.
The scholar-in-residence pro-
gramming is sponsored by Adat
Shalom's Adult Study
Commission. Chairs for the
weekend are Sharon and
Sheldon Rochlen, Carole Shaw,
Stuart Sinai, Linda O'Desky and
Shelly Perlman.
