It was created in 1948 by Imrich Lichtenfeld, an officer and chief instructor at the army's physical training facility. Students of the self-defense technique brought it to the United States in the early 1980s after it was refined for civilians. The goal of Krav Maga, says Coiling, is sur- vival — "to be the only- one standMg, at the end." Students are taught vulnerable points on the human body and are encouraged to use that knowledge in fending off an attack.
