Friedman, 36, rolled the first 300 game of his bowl- ing career, in the B'nai B'rith Pisgah Lodge Bowling League at Country Lanes in Farmington. Friedman has been bowling since the age of 5, but Pisgah is his only league. He averaged 199 last year, but "I seem to be getting better as I get older," he said. The Sept. 14 series was the first time he had bowled in four months. For the three-game series, Friedman rolled 199-300-197/696. His father Mort, of West Bloomfield, has been his teammate in the Pisgah League for 10-15 years, Friedman said. "I'm not as serious about it as my dad," Matt Friedman said. "My dad has bowled four 300 games." Friedman said that late in his 300 game, other bowlers stopped talking about his string of strikes and drifted down from other lanes to watch his last three frames. "I couldn't believe it," said Friedman. "I never thought I'd get one." Before the 300 game, Friedman said, "I was known [around the Pisgah League] as `Mort's son.' Now, he's 'Matt's father.' Mort Friedman, 64, bowls 2-3 times per week and has bowled pro- fessionally on the senior circuit. He had a 203 average last year, 216 the year before, and bowled two of his 300 games in the last two years. One of his big disappointments was not seeing Matt's 300 game. "I hardly ever miss a bowling night," said Mon Friedman. "But I was busy with something and couldn't be there." He's sure heard about Matt's 300 game since Sept. 14, however. ❑ Irnai Writh Seeks Bowlers The B'nai B'rith Bowling Leagues continue to need bowlers for the new season.
