At Adat Shalom

The Beth Elders of Temple Beth El will
feature the 1996 Emmy Award-nomi-
nated film Bubbeh Lee and Me, directed
by Andy Abrahams Wilson, at a lun-
cheon noon Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the
temple.
The film, a joint presentation with
the Michigan Jewish AIDS Coalition's -
ECHO Program, chronicles Andy's visit
to his 87-year-old grandmother in
Florida. It deals with the issues of aging,
identity, alienation and acceptance. The
film will be followed by a discussion.
The program is open to the commu-
nity. Cost of the afternoon is $10 for
members; $11 for guests. Reservations
may be made prior to Oct. 12 by call-

Adat Shalom Synagogue will host a
Family Shabbat Sukkot service and
dinner 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13.
The congregation will formally
welcome Rabbi Jay . and Beth Strear
into the synagogue family. Chairs for
the event are Cheryl Margolis, Cindy
Nagel and Jeanne and Leo Maxbauer.
The charge is $16 for adults and
$10 for children over age 3.

School Vouchers

The Jewish Association for Residential
Care's Harris Children and Family
Division will sponsor an information
meeting for parents of children with
special needs 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12,
at the Max M. Fisher Federation
Building in Bloomfield Township.
The program is tided "How School
Vouchers Affect Your Special-Needs
Student: Get the Facts Before You
Vote." Michael Emlaw from All Kids
First! will speak in opposition of school
vouchers. A representative from Kids
First! Yes! Will present the position sup-
porting vouchers.

Archeology
Comes Alive

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit will host a three-
part lecture series, "Digging Up the
Torah: The Impact of Biblical
Archeology on Modern Judaism," at the
JCC in West Bloomfield.
The first lecture, "Dead Sea Scrolls:
The Untold Story," will be 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday. Oct. 17. The lecturer is Dr.
Ken Hanson, author and reacher of
university classes on the Dead Sea
Scrolls and the Kabbalah.

succeeds

Federation's banking/real estate

arm.

Formerly vice president of the
Foundation, Hauser chairs
Federation's Real Estate and
Property Management Committee.
He is a past chair of Federation's
Financial Operations Committee,
the Maple-Drake Campus
Committee and the Community
Relations and National Agencies
Budgeting Division.
A member of Federation's Board
of Governors and its executive
committee, Hauser has been active
in Federation's Annual Campaign
since 1967. In past years he's
played an active role in the UJA
National Young Leadership
Cabinet. He has chaired two mis-
sions to Israel.
Hauser chairs the legal commit-
tee at Temple Beth El and is a
managing partner of the Southfield
law firm of Maddin, Hauser,
Wartell, Roth, Heller & Pesses PC.
