be the focus of a community-wide
forum offered by a state-wide coali-
tion of Jewish organizations sched-
uled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23,
at the Jewish Community Center in
West Bloomfield.
The evening's panel is made up of
these community leaders: David

board member and Jewish
Community Council of

community activist and American
Civil Liberties Union/Detroit Office
legislative director; Dr. Mark Smiley,
Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit headmaster; and Shirley
Stancato, New Detroit Inc. presi-
dent. The panel will outline reasons
why Jewish voters should not sup-
port vouchers. Giving the keynote
address is Dr. Seymour Gretchko,
superintendent of the West
Bloomfield Schools.

Hebrew Course
For Adults

The Adat Shalom Synagogue Men's
Club will sponsor an 18-week
Monday evening Hebrew course for
men and women beginning Oct. 16.
The classes are designed to teach the
aleph bet and work on siddur skills
and reading fluency.
The classes will meet from 7:30-9
p.m. and will be taught by trained
lay persons under the direction of
Adat Shalom clergy. There is a $25
materials fee for members and a $30
charge for all others.

Hadassah Holds Registration Drive

In support of national Hadassah's pro-
motion to register voters and increase
citizen of participation, members of
the Greater Detroit Chapter of
Hadassah recently visited the Heritage
in Southfield. They were there to
encourage the resident seniors to file
change-of-address forms and apply for
absentee ballots, if needed, for the
November election.

The seniors also were advised of the
Chapter's "Vote No" position on the
state ballot's Proposal 1. Participating
Hadassah volunteers included Bea
Breiner, Beverly Apel and Barbara
Moretsky.
