publications office manager, produc-

general manager. In 1995, she was
also named executive vice president
and a general manager of Waterspout
Communications, the former parent
company of the Detroit Jewish News
and the Atlanta Jewish Times.
In her new position, Stafford will
work closely with Horwitz on general
management issues and growth
opportunities.
• Craig R. Phipps, controller.
Phipps directs all finance and
accounting operations for JRM.
Previously, Phipps served for 17
years as controller of the Livonia-
based Observer & Eccentric
Newspapers, as assistant controller
of the newspaper chain and as their
accounts receivable manager.
• Greg Day, director of informa-
tion technology. Day served for 18
years at the Observer & Eccentric
Newspapers in various technical
capacities, most recently as manager
of information services. As JRM's
director of information technology,
Day is responsible for the company's
corporate data center, on-line opera-
tions and systems design.
Also part of the JRM leadership is
Atlanta Jewish Times Publisher
Stephen Levene. Levene, who has
headed the Atlanta publication since
1997, is a former executive with the
Wall Street Journal.
Tripp Liles, creative director of the
Atlanta Jewish Times, designed Jewish
Renaissance Media's corporate logo.
Jewish Renaissance Media is using
the tag line, "A new voice for Jewish
America," said Horwitz, "to reflect
the renewed interest in Jewish learn-
ing and living and to reaffirm our
commitment to communicating
information and ideas to the Jewish
communities we serve."
Added Friendly: "Jewish America is
diverse and dynamic, incredibly success-
ful yet often uncertain about where it is
going or wants to go. I believe that one
of the key ingredients in strengthening
American Jewry's identity and continu-
ity is for it to be engagingly informed
about its many manifestations."
Buoyed by this "intensely hopeful
story, filled with deep ideas, passion-
ate conflict and the liveliest people in
the world," Friendly said, "I've been a
journalist for just shy of four decades,
and I can't remember a story or topic
that has excited me as much as that of
the Jewish renaissance that is happen-
