• In addition to the list of benefactors that ran with the story on his contribution
to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra ("Music Maker," Sept. 22, page 12), William
Davidson and Guardian Industries last year donated $20 million to the American
Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science. The gift will allow the
Weizmann Institute to establish the Davidson Institute of Science Education at
the Weizmann Institute of Science. In fact, next month a delegation from Detroit
will travel to Israel with Bill Davidson for the official inauguration of the
Davidson Institute of Science Education on the campus of the Weizmann
Institute. Davidson's involvement with Weizmann dates back more than 14 years.

• Correcting the Jewish News interpretation of his comments on Arab refugees
while addressing a community lunch ("Caution On Peace," Sept. 15, page 26)
Israel's deputy counsel general for the Midwest, David Roet, noting the past 50
years have produced 2.5- to 5.5-million Arab refugees, said his actual statement
was: "More realistically, about half a million refugees could be absorbed by the
area held by the Palestinian Authority."

• In a story about Yeshivat Akiva ("Primed For A Rebound," Sept. 9, page 6),
Shirley Loewenthal, wife of Dr. Lawrence Loewenthal and joint contributor with
her husband to the Southfield day school, is misidentified as Betty Loewenthal.
In addition, the name of her husband's business was misidentified; it's the Vision
Institute of Michigan.

• Paul Gross' recipe for Low-Cal Honey Cake ("Cut Above," Sept. 22, page 103)
should have been titled low-fat, not low-cal. Three Egg Beaters in the recipe
means the Egg Beater equivalent of three eggs. Gross says additional flour may
be added "if the batter seems a tad too loose.

THROTTLED from page 14

This [counter-suit] is being driven
purely by the Nederlanders.
"Our only concern is the future suc-
cess of the State Fair," Shafer said.
Attempts to reach Joe Nederlander
for comment at press time were unsuc-
cessful.
Three years ago, a similar
groundswell of protests kept William
Davidson, owner of the Detroit

Pistons, from building a track at the
fairgrounds. His Palace Sports and
Entertainment, which operates the
Palace of Auburn Hills, announced
plans in 1996 for a $40 million track
at the fairgrounds, but shelved them
the following year following vocal
opposition from Archer and the fair-
grounds' neighbors.
The Nederlander suit is before
Wayne County Circuit Court Judge
Gershwin A. Drain. ❑
