A social anthropologist, Professor _late
Bahloul has done extensive research on
Jewish minorities in France and in Italy. Her
scholarship deals with issues of gender, the
family, Jews in the city, and collective mem-
ory. Professor Bahloul's most recent book,
The Architecture of Memory (Cambridge
University, 1996), is a study of Jewish iden-
tity among North African Jews who immi-
grated to France in the 1960's.
