JOIN Students Complete Internships

Thirteen college students recently
completed internships sponsored by
the Jeanette and Oscar Cook Jewish
Occupational Intern (JOIN) program.
For eight weeks during the summer,
full-time college students work closely
with professionals in areas of business
administration, marketing and com-
munications, research program plan-

ning, human services and community
relations. Through the paid intern-
ships, undergraduate and graduate stu-
dents explore potential career and lay
leadership positions in the Jewish
community.

Through Satire

The Capitol Steps, a traveling
troupe of congressional staffers-
turned-comedians, will perform
when the Anti-Defamation
League/Michigan Region presents its
Pre-Election Bash 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Knollwood
Country Club, 5050 W. Maple,
West Bloomfield.
Money raised will go for the
ADL's fight against antisemitism and
bigotry and support the organiza-
tion's programs promoting democra-
tic ideals.
The evening will include cock-
tails, a strolling dinner, silent auc-
tion and the performance. Cost to
attend is $180 per person.
Co-chairs are Jennifer and Dan
Gilbert and Richard Gershenson.
Judi and Brad Schram are honorary
chairs. Andrea Gonik is the silent
auction chair.

Membership Special
At The JCC

In celebration of Rosh HaShana, the
Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit will kick off its
"Apples and Honey" two-week mem-
bership special on Sunday, Sept. 24.
The special will run through Oct. 8
The membership special is avail-
able to anyone who has not been an
annual JCC member in the past
year. During the membership spe-
cial, greatly reduced rates will be

Congregation Shaar Hashomavim in
Windsor will host Rebbetzin Esther
Jungreis at the first Zalman and
Dina Kamen Lecture, 8 p.m.
Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the syna-
gogue.
Rebbetzin Jungreis has written a
weekly column for the Jewish Press in
New York and she teaches Bible on
the Hineni television show.
