Hughey as its new
executive director.
Hughey, a graduate of
MSU, served as direc-
tor of the Michigan
Jewish Conference
since 1992. In that
capacity, she served as
the lobbyist for the
Cindy Hughey
statewide Jewish corn-
munity in Lansing.

New Board
To Lead JAMD

West Bloomfield — The Jewish
Academy of Metropolitan Detroit has
announced the formation of its board
of directors, effective immediately.
The executive board consists of
Robert P. Roth, president; Steve
Schanes, vice president; Larry Garon,
vice president; Robert Kleiman, trea-
surer; Rhonda Byer, secretary; Jeff
Garden, past president.
Governing board members are Doris
Blechman, Dr. Jeffrey Devries, Dr. Zvi
Gitelman, Dr. Natan HarPaz, Barbara
Horowitz, Richard Kroopnik, Danny
Kurzman, Rabbi Danny Nevins,
Cheryl Schanes, Robert Schostak,
Howard Tapper and Arthur Weiss.
The JAMD is an independent, co-
educational Jewish day high school
offering a college preparatory curricu-
lum integrated with intensive Jewish
studies. The Academy opened Aug. 28
with 49 students in grades nine and
10, and, within a week, the number
had risen to 51.

Community Center in West
Bloomfield.

Rabbinical School
Adds Campus

New York/JTA — What is believed to
be the only nondenominational rabbini-
cal school in the United States opened a
second campus last week.
The Academy for Jewish Religion,
which has ordained 150 rabbis and can-
tors since it was founded in New York
in 1956, has enrolled 20 students at its
Los Angeles campus.
