n addition to the 166 teens
who were part of the Detroit
delegation to the 2000 Maccabi
Games, 52 competitors from
surrounding communities also partici-
pated, winning 45 medals.
Eleven Flint-area teens came back
with six medals from Maccabi 2000.

Detroit's age 15-16 gold medal volley-
ball team in Cincinnati. Baseball
players Zack Himelhoch and Nick
Reider were on Detroit's 15-16 team,
winning bronze in Cincinnati.
Shiri Kassel won a gold medal for
creating an art banner depicting the
theme, "Respect." Tamara Steinman
won two medals with the Los Angeles
team for mixed track relay. Ben Segal
was a finalist in the 100 meters.
Kevin Schwartz and David Harris
played on a New Jersey basketball
team. Bowen Vernan competed in
swimming and Lev Prasov and David
Midler won matches in tennis.
Ann Arbor
Ann Arbor sent 21 teens to the
Maccabi Games in Boca Raton, Fla.
They won 13 medals.
Swimmer Ryan Christian came
home with three golds. In bowling,
Allison Reid took a gold, silver and
a bronze, while Marie Meltzer won
silver. Golfer Jonathan Goldstein
won gold and Andy Tankanow a
bronze.
In tennis, Alex Wilson won gold
in singles, Yuliya Polyachenko won
gold in doubles and Dan Taylor
took bronze in doubles. In table
tennis, Yaniv Zimet claimed a
bronze medal.
Also participating were Dan
Singer, Max Owen and Gabe Haber
in soccer and David Omenn in ten-
