"I believe that making excellent day
school education available to all Jews
is the most effective way to ensure
the continuity of a proud, strong and
learned Jewish community in North
America," Steinhardt said.
Creating PEJE was only the first
step in building effective new Jewish
day schools, he added.
"It is of utmost importance that we
continue to nurture our current donors
and create a larger donor base through
education and communication — two
of the goals of the donor assembly."
In addition to Schostak, area dele-
gates to the assembly are Martin Gene
of West Bloomfield, Terry and Robert
Roth of Farmington Hills, Steven
Schanes of West Bloomfield, Jerry
Schostak of Franklin and Howard
Tapper of Bloomfield Hills.
Keynote speakers will include Rabbi
Jacob Schacter, founding dean of the
Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik Institute in

Brookline, Mass., who will speak on
the recent successes, present projects
and future of Jewish education. Dr.
Jack Wertheimer, provost of the Jewish
Theological Seminary in New York
City, will discuss "Increasing the
Donor Base for Jewish Day Schools in
North America."
"I see the assembly as an opportunity
to network with other committed folks
in day schools around the country, to
hear some different speakers on topics
affecting day schools," said Robert
Schostak, who was on the steering com-
mittee that planned the PEJE assembly.
"It has been proven in study after
study that the best way to assure con-
tinuity in Jewish life is formal Jewish
education, rather than informal,"
Schostak said.
"This can best be accomplished at a
day school." ❑
