An honor student at Walled Lake
Middle School, Sam likes playing hock-
ey, playing the cello, reading, history
and visiting historical sires. His ongoing
mitzvah projects involve assisting at
Federation Apartments and raising
funds for the March of Dimes.

Ryan Andrew Gottlieb will be called to
the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday,
Sept. 9, at Temple Emanu-El. He is the
son of Lisa and Stephen Gottlieb and
brother to Josh and
Lauren. He is the
grandson of Barbara
and Norman
Benjamin and Sarah
and Harold Gottlieb.
Ryan is an eighth-
grade student at
Norup Middle School in Oak Park and
enjoys computers, skateboarding and
video games. He spent many mitzvah
hours helping at the Norup school store,
Tamarack's kitchen and Temple Emanu-
El's day camp and Purim carnival.

Kari Michelle Guttman will be called to
the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Friday,
Sept. 8, at Temple Emanu-El. Kari is the
daughter of Julie and
Bruce Gunman and
the granddaughter of
Betty and Jerry
Simons, Helen
Gunman and the late
Alexander Guttman.
Kari attends Norup
Middle School in Oak Park, where she
is an honor roll student. She plays the
violin in the school orchestra. Kari's
interests include computers, shopping
and babysitting. She has been a camper
at Tamarack for the last five years. Kari
worked at Yad Ezra for her mitzvah pro-
ject; she prepared and distributed food
packages. Kari is also a member of the
Woods Strivers, a community-service
group for youth in Huntington Woods.

Jacqueline Tyner Herman will be called
to the.Torah as a bat mitzvah during
Havdala services Saturday, Sept. 9, at
Temple Israel. She is
the daughter of Judge
Deborah Tyner and
Richard Herman and
sister of Brandon.
Proud grandparents
are Arlene and
Morton Herman and
Suzanne and Herbert Tyner.
Her most meaningful mitzvah pro-
ject involved volunteering at a Kadima
Passover seder at Temple Israel.
