Starts Sept. 12

Adat Shalom Synagogue will welcome
Rabbi Daniel Katz, an American
rabbi/cantor from Germany, who will
speak at the synagogue on Friday,
Sept. 15, and Saturday, Sept. 16.
Rabbi Katz has served the Jewish
people in
Germany since
1997. He teaches,
delivers sermons,
chants liturgy and
participates in
interreligious dia-
logue.

The Rabbi Max Weine Institute for
Judaism, providing four months of study
in the basics of Conservative Judaism,
will begin its fall semester on Tuesday,
Sept. 12. The classes will meet from
7:30-9:30 p.m. weekly at Congregation
Beth Shalom. Sponsor is the
Conservative Rabbis of Metropolitan
Detroit.
The institute curriculum includes
study of Jewish history, holidays, the
philosophy of Conservative Judaism as
well as prayers. Opportunities are avail-
able to experience and understand sacred
moments in the calendar. Basic Hebrew
is included along with a Shabbat dinner
at which participants can use the skills
the course provides.
Rabbi David A. Nelson teaches the
course assisted by his wife, Alicia Nelson.
