riving on Interstate 75 to
Charlevoix up north is usual-
ly boring and tedious, but
come autumn when leaves turn sun-
flower yellow and burnt orange, the
colors are invigorating and captivat-
ing. Many cities up north even plan
for the color change week, which can
happen from mid-September to early
October. The East Jordan Area
Chamber of Commerce has the
Jordan Valley color tour route, which
can last the entire day or a few hours.
Stop by the Raven Hill Discovery
Center and Stonehedge Petting Farm
and snatch a spectacular view of the
valley and river. The photos shown
here are from the Jordan Valley area.
On Saturday, Oct. 7, the Cheboygan
area Chamber of Commerce hosts
AumtumnFest 2000. The cities of Boyne and Petoskey are also hosting fall
festivals the same weekend. According to Ken Hayward, vice president sales
and marketing for the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, "Color changes on
the island are one week later due to moisture."
