Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Rebecca Lindsay Rosenbaum of
Southfield will be called to the
Torah as a bat mitzvah on Friday,
Aug. 25, at Temple Emanu-El. She
is the daughter of Leah and Dr.
Daniel Rosenbaum and older sister
to Chelsea. She is
the granddaughter
of Thelma and the
late Rabbi Milton
Rosenbaum and
the late Shirley and
Norman Dickman.
An honor stu-
dent, Rebecca will
enter eighth grade
at Covington School in
Birmingham, where she plays the
flute in band and is on the forensics
team. Rebecca is also a member of a
competition tap-dance team and
studies jazz and ballet.
For her mitzvah project, Rebecca
volunteered with the Senior Service
Corps at Jewish Vocational Service.

Community Services

Samuel Lee Rosenbaum will be
called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah
on Saturday, Aug. 26, at
Congregation B'nai Moshe. He is
the son of Dr. Lewis and Leslye
Rosenbaum and brother of Henry
and Max. Sam is
the loving grandson
of Dr. Herbert and
Doris Rosenbaum
and Gita Raymer.
Samuel is a stu-
dent at Orchard
Lake Middle
School in West
Bloomfield. At
school, Sam plays
baritone saxophone in the sympho-
ny band and in the OLMS Jazz
Band. He will participate with the
jazz band at the upcoming
Montreaux Jazz Festival. He also
plays piano and has won a gold tro-
phy cup in competition. During the
fall, he is a member of the school
football team. Sam spends part of
each summer at Camp Ramah in
Canada.
On Shabbat, Sam usually can be
found helping out in the babysit-
ting room at Congregation B'nai
Moshe. In his free time, Sam enjoys
spending time with friends, riding
his bike, swimming and doing card
tricks.

Michael Ward Weitz will be called
to the Torah as a
bar mitzvah on
Saturday, Aug. 26 ;
at Temple Israel.
He is the son of
Sara and Edwin
Weitz and brother
of Emily. Happy
grandparents are
Fannie and Ben
Weitz. Michael is
also the grandchild of the late Mary
and Robert Snyder.
An honor student at Orchard
Lake Middle School in West
Bloomfield, Michael likes all sports,
especially football, snowboarding,
baseball and golf. His mitzvah pro-
jects included volunteering at Yad
Ezra and babysitting at Temple
Israel during services.

Out Of State
Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Lauren Stacy Rakow will be called
to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on
Saturday, Aug. 26,
at Temple B'nai
Hayim in Sherman
Oaks, Calif. Lauren
is the daughter of
Beth, formerly of
Michigan, and Jay
Rakow and sister
of Matthew. She is
the granddaughter
of Esther Fox, formerly of
Southfield.
An honor student at the Heschel
Day School, Lauren enjoys painting
and sports, especially soccer. She
also enjoys listening to music and
spending summers at Camp Tanuga.
Lauren continues to involve her-
self with blind children and has
helped to deliver food baskets to
homebound patients.

The normal deadline for local news
and publicity items is noon
Thursday, eight days prior to issue
date. The deadline for out-of-town
obituaries, 10 a.m. Tuesday, three
days prior to issue date.
All material must be typewritten,
double-spaced, on 81/2x11 paper
and include the name and daytime
telephone number of sender.
