Hermelins host Clinton at
Stabenow fund-raiser.

resident Bill Clinton swung into
town Tuesday to show his support
for the candidacy of U.S. Rep. Debbie
Stabenow for the U.S. Senate.
His first stop was a back yard recep-
tion at the Bingham Farms home of
Brian and Jennifer Hermelin. About 200
guests had donated $1,000 each to share
hors d'oeuvres and hear Clinton's
endorsement of Stabenow as someone
who would work to maintain Social
Security, provide tax cuts, support hate-
crimes legislation and improve education
at all levels if she is elected senator.
Stabenow, who has represented
Michigan's 8th Congressional District
since January 1997, is challenging
Republican Sen. Spencer Abraham for the
Senate seat he's held since January 1995.
"The president's support will surely
help financially, but her opponent still
will be outspending her 2 or 3 to 1. This
will help her come a little closer," said
U.S. Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), who
also spoke at the fund-raiser.
Brian Hermelin is the son of philan-
thropist and Democratic Party activist
David Hermelin and wife Doreen.
David Hermelin most recently was the
U.S. ambassador to Norway.
"Stabenow is an amazing candidate. I
want to see her elected," Doreen
Hermelin said. "It was an extremely
thrilling occasion, and we were honored
to be part of it." ❑

Corrections

• In last week's "Mazel Tov!"
("More Than Dabbling," page
53), the location of Frita and
Jack Drapkin's art show was
incorrectly noted, due to an edit-
ing error. The show was held at
the Heritage in Southfield, where
the Drapkins live.
• Due to miscommunication
among school personnel, the
Aug. 11 article "Flag On The
Field" (page 17) had an incorrect
date for the football game
between Royal Oak Dondero and
Bloomfield Hills Andover high
schools. Originally scheduled for
the evening of Sept. 29, erev
Rosh HaShana, the game has
been rescheduled for 7 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 28, at Dondero.
