The Detroit "A" team of girls ages 15-16 began a
perfect gold medal week on Monday, Aug. 14, with
victories over Cincinnati and Baltimore.
The Detroit "B" team of girls ages 13-14 defeated
Canton, Ohio. Lisa Goode's striking of Amanda
Ossipove's setups provided the offense, reported
coach Ken Bertin. The team also defeated Rochester
in a tight match with Nicki Milgrom's service,
Hannah Miller's all-round play and Rachel Brody's
backcourt play carrying the team. Later on Monday,
the two Detroit teams played each other and Detroit
"A" overpowered the younger "B" team.
On Tuesday, Aug. 15, Detroit "A" defeated Canton
and "B" lost to Baltimore in a hard-fought match.
Going into the Wednesday playoffs, "A" was undefeat-
ed and seeded first, with "B," 2-2, seeded third.

Detroit "B" ran into a very tough Cincinnati team.
Fighting valiantly, the Detroiters were eliminated.
Detroit "A" had a relatively easy time with
Canton. In the final game Thursday, Aug. 17, the
girls defeated Cincinnati to win the gold. Detroit
"A" never lost a game throughout the tournament.
"Every aspect of the 'A team's play was superb," said
Bertin. "Their serving was nearly perfect, they passed
the ball with precision and their setting was concise so
that the hitters could target areas of the court easily.
"Lisa Scher, Elina Pilnits, Inna Revzin, Emily
Baker, Amee Joshi, Hallie Brick, Blayr Teeple, Pam
Feingold, Lisa Ackerson and Julie Hack put on a
