Sunday's Ducky Derby
Fights Pediatric Cancer

The Detroit Ducky Derby will take to
the water Sunday, Aug. 27, at
Kensington Metropark near Milford.
The Greater Detroit Chapter of
Hadassah is sponsor of the derby.
Proceeds will be used for children's
oncology services and research in the
fight against cancer in children.
At 2 p.m. Sunday, a flotilla of 10,000
rubber ducks will be released into the
lake at Kensington's Maple Beach as
hundreds of children, parents and
grandparents cheer them on.
For the fund-raiser, a single duck
can be adopted for a $5 donation; $25
for a six-duck Quack-Pack; $50 for a
Derby Dozen of 13 ducks .or $100 for
a Flock of 30 ducks. Ducks may be
purchased prior to the race at several
metro area locations and at
Kensington on Sunday. The grand-
prize winner will receive a two-year
lease on a new Oldsmobile Alero.
Beginning at 11 a.m. and going until
3 p.m., free family activities on the day
will include moonwalks, face painting,
magicians, clowns, puppet shows, tat-
toos and games. Food will be available
for purchase.
Hadassah's Randi Simko is chairing
the Ducky Derby. Honorary chairs are
WXYZ-TV's Don Shane and his wife
Mona.
Kensington Metropark is located off
1-96 at exits 151 or 153. Parking is $3
per vehicle.

Tots Club
Goes Exploring

Birmingham Temple in
Farmington Hills sponsors the
Explorers Club, a program for pre-
schoolers, their parents or grand-
parents. The group meets once a
month, generally on Thursday
afternoons, to exploi-e places of
interest in metro Detroit.
