ZOA Honors
Frank Stella

Frank D. Stella, a Detroit busi-
nessman, philanthropist and
humanitarian, has been chosen
to receive the Zionist
Organization of America's
Justice D. Brandeis Award, its
highest citation of merit. The
presentation
will be at
ZOA's 6th
annual
Balfour
Concert on
Wednesday,
Oct. 18, at
Detroit's
Orchestra
Hall.
Stella, a
University
Frank D. Stella
of Detroit
alumnus,
serves civic, medical, religious
and educational institutions.
He has received citations from
the government of Italy (three
times), Johns Hopkins
University in Baltimore,
University of Bologna, Gentium
Pacem University and Cleary
College. An appointee of for-
mer Presidents Nixon, Ford,
Reagan and Bush, Stella per-
formed special political assign-
ments in Michigan for Gov.
John Engler and former gover-
nors William Milliken and
James Blanchard, as well as for
the late Detroit Mayor
Coleman Young.
In 1995, Stella received the
George W. Romney Award for
Lifetime Achievements in
Volunteerism. The city of
Detroit selected Stella as
Michigander of the Year for
1997. A year later, Stella
received the State of Israel
Independence Award from

Israel Bonds. His community
involvements includes board
membership in Detroit's Urban
League, Michigan Chamber of
Commerce and the Economic
Club of Detroit. He chairs
Detroit's Income Tax Board of
Review and Save Orchestra Hall
Committee and is vice chair of
Michigan Opera Theatre.
