Fall Session

The fall session of the Barbara Ann
Karmanos Cancer Institute faith-
based spiritual support group for
Jewish cancer patients, survivors
and family members will be held at
Adat Shalom Synagogue in collabo-
ration with Rabbi Herbert
Yoskowitz.
The group will meet every
Tuesday for 10 weeks from 7-8:30
p.m., beginning Sept. 12 at Adat
Shalom in Farmington Hills. The
group explores personal spirit-build-
ing and tools within Judaism that
provide comfort, hope and coping
mechanisms.
The group will be led by thera-
pist Barbara Baron and social work-
er Patricia Milner Sachs, both can-
cer survivors.
Sessions address uncertainty, lack
of control, treatment concerns, doc-
tor-patient relationships, self and
body image, the effect of illness on
family members, social relation-
ships, etc.

The Jewish Women's Foundation of
Metropolitan Detroit, an affiliate of
the Jewish Federation, and William
Beaumont Hospital are co-sponsor-
ing a program on heart disease in
women, 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug.
29, at Beaumont in Royal Oak.
Medical, exercise and nutrition
experts will discuss cardiac risk fac-
tors and modification, gender dif-
ferences in heart disease and treat-
ments, and present an overview of
how women have and will be . treat-
ed in the past, present and future.
There is no charge for the pro-
gram, but pre-registration is encour-
aged. The program will be held in
the heart center conference room in
the hospital's main building.
