come up with a novel way to break up
the work day at lunchtime ... "Eat to
the Beat" is for thousands of workers
in the Southfield sector to enjoy live
music and food from area restaurants
once a week.
It's every Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 2
p.m., in Southfield's City Centre
Plaza, a block west of Evergreen,
between Civic Center Drive and the I-
696 Service Drive.

been a big supporter of Notre Dame
High School, for which Joe Vicari
starred ... Head of the Andiamo
restaurant chain and president of
Hillside Productions that brings big
name acts to Freedom Hill, Joe donat-
ed 2,000 tickets to Notre Dame
High's fund-raiser concert starring the
Las Vegas act Scintas, Friday, Aug. 11,
at Freedom Hill.
MIKE KUCHERSKY, owner of
the Fiddler Restaurant, which recently
received its liquor license ... and the
Sunrise Cafes ... recalls when he was
living in Russia years back ... There
was this one Mike tells about an old
man in Leningrad, sitting on a park
bench and dozing ... When he awoke
the man noticed two uniformed
policemen seated on each side of him
... "My God!" he mumbled. "What
did I dream?"
Then there was the Russian, says
Mike, who was convicted of calling the
Minister of Culture a fool ... He got a
20-year sentence ... Five years for slan-
der and 15 for revealing a state secret.
The story is told, he says, of the
Communist who died and went to
hell ... Upon his arrival, he told Satan,
"Boy, am I happy to be in heaven" ...
"But you're mistaken," the devil told
him, "this isn't heaven" ... "That's
what you think," sighed the comrade.
