Award honoree,
spent the day enter-
taming with his sto-
ries galore while
seated informally at
a table under a tent
... Then going to
another table to
sign eight boxes of
baseballs (96) ... and going back to the
original table to tell more jokes while .
signing more autographs on anything
handed to him.
Seventy-nine of the balls Lasorda
signed were put into plastic containers
for corporate sponsors ... in a lot of work
on the Tam back porch by Steve Simon,
executive director; Elayne Wolfson, assis-
tant executive director; Janie Shallop and
Eric Simon, Steve's son.
Janie told about her kindergarten
class at Temple Israel on the last
Veteran's Day... She asked the young-
sters if they knew what a veteran was ...
and one child raised a hand and said,
"It is a person who doesn't eat meat."
Dinner outside at various stations
was plentiful and good ... preceded by .
some choice hors d'oeuvres ... The
Tam folks do a fine job.
Myron Milgrom didn't sign any
autographs this day as the look-alike of
movie character actor Harold Gould
...Irving Last did his usual humorous
standup comedy ... Ron Rothstein and
Jerry Silver among the very few wear-
ing ties ... Nate Silverman regaling
with tales of yesteryears ... Of the five
players on one of the golf teams, four
were Lakers ... Marty Kohlenberg,
Harold Bloom and Seymour Brode
were former roommates at Eastern
Michigan University ... Marty and
Harold attended the Hank Greenberg
event ... while Seymour, one of the
founders of the Michigan Jewish
Sports Hall of Fame, was in France
with wife, Dee ... Harold Finegood
with a fine-looking goatee that befits
the Jewish "Irish Arribassador"
Former Piston coach, personable
Chuck Daly, would have won a prize
for most people around him.
The banquet was highly entertain-
ing with Dick Shaap, ESPN sports-
caster, doing another wonderful job as
emcee ... And Tommy Lasorda was sel-
dom better.
ON ONE OF the dairy trays made
by Shirlee Bloom in her private
kitchen at Vineyards on Northwestern
Highway is a whole white fish stuffed
with whitefish salad ... It's a quite sen-
sible combination that has been draw-
ing a lot of favorable comment.
Shirlee comes up with many fine
food ideas, but primarily in her favor
