We are in the midst of
a "Jewish Renaissance." One of its architects is
philanthropist Michael Steinhardt, the chair-
man of this newspaper.
The Jewish News and its sister publication,
the Atlanta Jewish Times, play important roles
in the communication of information and
ideas to the communities they serve. To reaf-
firm our commitment to crafting a vibrant, ful-
filling Jewish experience in America, we have
named our corporate entity Jewish Renaissance
Media.
The accompanying logo was designed by
Atlanta Jewish Times Creative Services Manager
Tripp Liles. In the coming weeks, months and
years, we pledge to do our part to make the
Jewish Renaissance occurring in America —
and Detroit — exciting and enduring.

many Jews, keeping kosher is integral to
their lives; it's part of being Jewish.
Having quality, available kosher butchers, restau-
rants and groceries is a must. But how are those
businesses kosher certified and what are the eco-
nomic implications?
In the face of an Oak Park business losing Vaad
Harabonim certification for two Lincoln Boulevard
operations, the Jewish News examines that question.
Special Writer Amy Mindell wrote "Kosher Losses"
ROBERT A.
(page 7) under the direction of Associate Editor
SKLAR
Alan Hitsky, who added a companion story. A relat-
Editor
ed editorial appears on page 35.
The question we address is important, especially for Detroit Jewry's
Torah-observant community.
