he rain falling most of the
day on July 30 decided to
lift just as many communi-
ty members were arriving at
a special party given to help Ben and
Jeremy Michalson of Novi.
Proceeds from the dinner-dance
held at the Jewish War Veterans
Building in Southfield will be split
between JWV and a Jewish Family
Service fund set up for the orphaned
young men. The Michalson brothers
were left with no close relatives and a
loss of support when their father,
Mark, passed away June 12. Their
mother, the late Joan Penner
Michalson, had had multiple sclerosis .
for 20 years when she died in January

1998.

The buffet-style food and other
generous donations from community
merchants helped make the evening
fun for an estimated 325 patrons.
Adding to the evening's mitzvah,
Forgotten Harvest received food left
over from the event.
The party attracted people for vari-

ous reasons. Some were there as
friends or acquaintances of the
Michalson brothers or their late par-
ents; others came to show their sup-
port for the young men or to help the
war veterans, who have financial needs
of their own.
Ben Michalson, 16, was unable to
attend the evening, but Jeremy
Michalson, 20, looked to be enjoying
himself with the rest of the crowd. He
took a turn on the dance floor with
Debbie Aaron of Farmington Hills,
whose family has been so helpful to
him and Ben. Other special friends,
Otto Dube of Ira Kaufman Chapel in
Southfield, and Richard and Elissa
Berg of West Bloomfield, who are
making a home for Ben, also attended.
Farmington Hills. resident Euni
Michelson, executive secretary of the
Jewish War Veterans, who put togeth-
er the event with her "Euni's Team"
volunteers, said she believes $7,000
was raised at the party, before expens-
es. Of that total, $3,600 came from
tickets sold at the door. Happy with
the outcome, Michelson said, "For a
group of cunprofessionals,' we did
pretty good." ❑
