THE ONE Sc ONLY
of Billy Lynn, suggested by my agent,
Sam Arnold, of the old Delbridge and
Gorrell agency. Prior to performing my
five shows a night, I had to turn off
the lights, the large cooling fan, and
the old Wurlitzer jukebox, which was
in the corner to the right of the small
stage. In the middle of one of my
numbers, a customer, obviously intoxi-
cated, staggered into the spotlight and
tried vainly to get a selection on the
jukebox. He inserted at least four or
five coins, banged on the machine,
uttered words I'd never heard, and
finally gave up. I stopped in the mid-
dle of my number and watched, along
with the audience. He got more laughs
than I did. Some patrons actually
thought he was part of the act!"
MAIL DEPT ... from Nancy
Hirsch (Victor) in Traverse City ... "I
am a resident of Traverse City(for-
merly from Birmingham). In your col-
umn of July 7, it was about the variety
of hamburgers served at Beau Jack's.
Plevalean burgers were created by Ray
Pleva, owner of a meat market in
Cedar, a neighbor of Traverse City. It
is not Prevalean."
(No typo ... My mistake ... That's
how it is spelled on the Beau Jack's
menu, too ... But no matter how you
spell it, the low fat Plevalean burger at
Beau Jack's still tastes mighty good.)

"WHO SAYS there's no such thing
as a free lunch anymore?" asks Nation's
Restaurant News ... "Are you looking
to eat on the cheap during your next
visit to France? According to Reuters
news service, you can eat for free in
this southern village (Saint-Pierre-De-
Trivisy). All you have to do is implore
President Bill Clinton to eliminate
U.S. tariffs on Roquefort cheese.
"Mayor Phillipe Folliot has
promised Americans a free meal at the
town's only restaurant. The cost is a
postcard, addressed to the president,
asking him to remove the tariff
"Folliot last year made headlines by
imposing a 10-franc tax on Coca-Cola
products, which doubled the products'
cost, in protest of U.S. tariffs on cheese
and other gourmet French foods."
HERE IN DETROIT, all you have
to be is bald ... Wednesday through
Sunday in September, when folks sans
head foliage can eat free with a paid
meal at the Rhinoceros on Franklin
and Riopelle. [11
