Grants Offered

Birthright Israel, for college-age stu-
dents, is accepting proposals for grants
to conduct post-trip programming activ-
ities for its alumni.
The grants will range from $2,500
to $15,000 for those participating in
the winter and spring 2000 education-
al trips as well as the forthcoming
winter 2001 trips.
Any agency or group of individuals
may submit a grant proposal. The pro-
posals are expected to be diverse in
nature and will be judged on the merit
of the idea, its ability to be replicated,
the viability of implementing the project
and cost efficiency. If a group of stu-
dents submits proposal, the group
should include at least one Birthright
Israel alumni and the proposal should be
submitted in cooperation with a spon-
soring agency.
Proposals for winter and spring 2000
trips must be received by Aug. 15, and
proposals for winter 2001 trips must be
received by Oct. 31. Grant recipients
will be announced shortly there af ter.

Golf Event

Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit's 2000 Golf Classic will be held
on Monday, Sept. 18, at Tam O'Shanter
Country Club in West Bloomfield.
Registration/lunch will begin at 11:45
a.m. and the shotgun start at 1 p.m. A
kosher dinner buffet will be offered at 6
p.m. Cost for a single spot is $225,
including golf, cart, range, locker room,
kosher lunch and dinner, beverages, golf
shirt, balls and trophies. Proceeds will
benefit educational and sports program-
ming at Hillel Day School.
Chrysler/Jeep is this year's corporate
sponsor of the event. Tournament spon-
sorships. are available. Steve Schlafer is
chairman for the third consecutive year.
Committee members include Jim
Berger, Jerry Byer, Scott Dresner, Bruce
Garelik, Jay Greenspan, Art Indianer,
Larry Sherman and Jeffrey Tackel. Stacy
Brodsky is fund-raising chairperson for
Hillel Day School.
