Consider The Implications
For decades a strategic ally, a greatly
weakened Israel would turn into a per-
petual liability for the U.S. after peace
process "success." Without full Israeli
control over the Jordan Valley and east-
west access roads connecting it to Israel,
moderate Jordan could fall to the PLO,
leaving nothing separating Iran, Iraq and
Syria from the Palestinian state.
in green-line Israel; by millions of
"refugees" that would flood Judea,
Samaria and Gaza only a few miles
away, and by extremely high birth
rates.
Beware Of "Success
>,
Israel's qualitative military edge, and
its nukes, would be useless if her bor-
ders are a mile wide here, 10 miles
wide there; weaving in between and
around various sovereign Arab
enclaves outside and soon inside
green-line Israel; looking more like a
badly gerrymandered congressional
district than a country.
Arab "civilian" mobs would sim-
ply march the few hundred yards
Ehud Barak, Bill Clinton and Yasser Arafat are flanked by aides at Camp David.
Iraq's million-man army could then
mass on the commanding Samarian
mountains, overlooking Israel's main
population and industrial center at its
10-mile waist, with the ability to reach
Tel Aviv in minutes. From the tower-
ing Golan Heights, Syrian tanks could
slice off northern Israel in minutes,
and deprive Israel of already scarce
water.
At the same time, Israel would have
an Arab fifth column to deal with.
With the 1967 border "stage" complet-
ed, the next stage would be to reduce •
Israel to the 1948 partition lines. Arabs
within green-line Israel — who since
Oslo refer to themselves as Palestinians
— would start yet another Intifada,
this time directed at Israel's main popu-
lation and industrial areas, be they Tel
Aviv schools, Intel factories, or the
Western Wall plaza, which would be
five stories below the sovereign Palestin-
ian Temple Mount. The Arab fifth col-
umn would be further strengthened by
the "return" of 100,000 "refugees" who
Barak has already agreed to allow with-
between Abu Dis and Jerusalem,
between Qalqiliya and Kefar Sava or
the short distances between numer-
ous Arab and Jewish areas within
green-line Israel — and overwhelm
the Jews with rifles, knives, sticks
and stones.
So, if the so-called peace process "suc-
ceeds," the U.S. will soon be faced with
two bad choices: (1) do nothing and
watch yet another 6 million Jews slaugh-
tered; or (2) permanently place countless
American men and women in the Mid-
dle East. The implications of either for
American Jews are dire.
Jews are an optimistic people; that
makes it all the more difficult for us to
accept the imperfect status quo over
the promises of the peace process. But
until a radical re-socialization occurs
in Arab and Muslim societies, the sta-
tus quo is. Israel's best chance to
defend itself and prosper.
It's time for Israel to end its capitu-
lation, to lower expectations, and to
disabuse the Arab notion that Israel
can be destroyed in stages. ❑
