own chips, brownies, sopapillas (fried
flour tortilla sprinkled with cinna-
mon, sugar and honey) and rice pud-
ding.
It opened March 14, 2000 ... and
has already become' a big favorite.
Chef Jose Herrera worked with
"Little Louie" eight years, formerly at
Loco's ... and heads the clean, invit-
ing open kitchen ... His Fajitas La
Sumprema for parties of four is a big
dining popular request with its array
of chicken, beef, shrimp, slab of ribs
and mixed vegetables.
Being in the new complex, next to
Vic's World Class Market, in Novi's
Main Street Shoppes, Lazy Lizard is
inside the mall part of Phase Three
... in what is hoped will be a main
downtown area ... with a nearby park
slated to open for top occasions ...
There is presently a lot of under-
ground parking.
Plus the La Sumprema Fajita for
four, the other five Fajita dishes are
also among Lazy Lizard's best sellers
... along with its popular Crawfish
Enchiladas (crawfish and onions in a
cream sauce, topped with cheese.)
Lazy Lizard is anything but lazy ...
especially in its clever ideas ... like
little clip-on rubber lizards on many
drink glasses for adults ... and rubber
lizards for the kids.
The menu is to the point ... and
simplified like a good Mexican
restaurant bill of fare should be with-
out the frills and crazy names ... 15
appetizers, homemade Texas chili,
Frito pie with layers of chili, Fritos
corn chips, onions and cheese; 10
quesadillas; six salads; six fajitas; five
burritos; favorites like flautas,
chimichangas, tostadas, tacos, etc. ...
Even Mexican pizza (on a crisp flour
tortilla with beans, cheese, pico de
gallo, black olives, jalapeflos and sour
cream with choice of chicken, beef,
veggie or bean).
Lazy Lizard is open seven days a
week ... Sunday-Thursday, 11 a.m. to
11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 to
2 a.m.
Although it opened in March, July
is a very lucky month for "Big
Louie" and Kim ... This is the month
of both their birthdays, when they
met, were married ... and had a son,
Robert ... The string was broken
when daughter, Athena, was born in
a month other than July.
Both "Big Louie" and "Little
Louie," Kim and Jose Herrera, have
Greektown togetherness and the
flaming cheese is still there to remind
them of this
But it's "Ole!" yelled
out instead of "Opa!" ... And it is
1886 MICHIGAN CENTRAL
RAILROAD DEPOT
e Gandy Dancer is a fully refurbished
1886 railroad station once heralded as "the
finest station between Buffalo and Chicago?'
The decor is definitely appropriate to this
historical landmark, with stained glass
windows, red oak ceilings, the original
baggage scale and magnificent granite walls.
An added touch are the daily passings of
the Amtrak train just a few feet from the
picture glass windows of the track-side
dining room. For the past 28 years, The
Gandy Dancer has enjoyed a reputation with
locals and tourists alike for serving the area's
finest seafood, fresh fish (never less than a
dozen offerings flown in daily from both
the East and West Coasts) rack of lamb,
aged beef and
homemade pastas.
And if you are a
"sweets lover"
the homemade
desserts, pastries
and ice creams
are a must.
